Machines, electricity, architecture and civil engineering. I want to know as much as possible about everything!
I am involved in the improvement of existing products related to electricity and air conditioning, the development of reusable facilities for new unit houses and more. I also conduct competitor research, for example, on new facilities that are about to be released to the market. On top of that, I also train employees when new products are to be operated in-house.
Another company offered me a job but I declined. To me, a career at Sankyo Frontier seems to hold more possibilities.
At that time, all of the companies that I applied to were related to mechanical systems. I received several job offers from these companies, but Sankyo Frontier seemed most promising. True enough, I was right. A fun life in development beyond my imagination was waiting for me. Lately, I have been working on an electric power distribution system that looks modest but is also ground-breaking.
Integrating an electricity board with a power board, the distribution panel incorporated in the Mobile Space eliminates the need for electrical work during the construction process. Thanks to everyone's effort, this product has gained popularity at construction sites. While collaborating with the department dealing with Mobile Space's main body, the struggles I faced with the wiring and cables, for instance, are no longer an issue.
At the start, I could not even distinguish the difference between a direct current and an alternating current, but I have always believed that if I tried to, I could do it. There are still many things that I have learned, such as creating a wireless switch, or the incorporation of a lighting control system.
We will expand the possibilities of the Mobile Space.
The current Mobile Space was invented by our Chairman. Despite repeated model modifications, the prototype has not changed much since its initial concept in 1970. Isn't that amazing?
I think that Mobile Space is a product with really great potential. As members of the next generation, I hope that we evolve further. Eventually, I hope that we can manufacture every part of the Mobile Space, down to each individual wire or bolt. In order to achieve this goal, we need to collaborate and incorporate our collective knowledge of machinery, electrical engineering, construction and civil engineering.
Creating the future of the company.
Since joining Sankyo Frontier, I have worked on store opening plans and formulating management plans. I took on the role of a group chief in 2009 and now have been a senior manager since 2013. Working directly under the company president, I work closely with the management planning group.
The index that stirs everyone’s hearts.
In the first year of joining the company, I couldn't tell left from right and was not sure where I belonged, or what the corporate planning department was about. When you hear the words "business planning", it seems to be a difficult job, but in short, it is a role that does what is necessary for company growth.
We summarise sales figures and create future plans for opening stores. We regularly gather data based on the management objectives. Initially, I was hesitant about whether I could perform such an important mission, but after 20 years of choosing this path, there is no doubt that this is the career for me.
One thing I always keep in mind is to not make any mistakes. If there is an error in just a piece of data, it might mislead the managerial decision that follows. When we present to our company president, we make sure to back our data with evidence to ensure there are no inconsistencies and omissions.
No matter how old I become, I want to grow.
From being a group chief, I have now become a senior department manager. My job title may be impressive, but it is not as important as the job and responsibility it comes with.
If together, we are able to execute the plan of our current president, Sankyo Frontier will become an even bigger company. As I am working directly under him and have personally heard about his vision, I am convinced that this will come into fruition. To accomplish further growth of the company, what is it that I can contribute? That is what I constantly think about. To expand my horizons, I am considering obtaining the Japanese Security Analyst qualification.
I strive to be a person that is constantly improving herself. Whether it's one or two levels better, I wish to be a match with the ever-growing Sankyo Frontier.
The centre that connects customers and employees.
In collaboration with the sales team that accepts orders from customers, I receive shipment requests for unit houses and manage the distribution centres which deliver the maintained products to customers. Together with the sales team and partner companies, I work to ensure efficiency and cost control.
Faster, less waste, smarter.
The deciding factor that led me to join the company was the promise of less waste and great social contribution. At the distribution centre, I am involved with reusable homes; and after working at my job, I feel that Sankyo Frontier is the best at creating "structures without waste". When a unit house is no longer needed, we collect, maintain and ship it out again. Even when you use the unit house at a construction site, the construction work can be completed without creating waste materials.
While it is assured that we will complete the job without any waste, Sankyo Frontier’s strength lies in completing the projects quickly. Naturally, we have to respond to the work at the distribution centre promptly. While we prepare delivery arrangements and balance the delivery dates for each respective customer's order, we have to coordinate the locations at the same time. How fast we move within the distribution centre would greatly affect the company's profit. I feel that it is a task with great responsibility.
The distribution centre that the whole company relies on.
Before being assigned to the distribution centre, I was part of the logistics distribution headquarters at the head office. I was tasked with introducing measures on how to achieve the goals of each of the distribution centres nationwide, but it was challenging for me to propose without field experience. For instance, even if our plan is to "shorten the construction time" to make the delivery sooner, I found it difficult to create an effective plan, as I had never been on site.
Now that I can communicate with the sales team and everyone at the distribution centre, I understand better what is needed and how to plan effective logistic movements. What makes me the happiest at work is when the sales team tells us, "Thank you". Even when we receive difficult orders from customers, it is our job to overcome the impossible while working together with the surrounding distribution centres.
I guess you can say that we are the centre that connects customers and employees. While the centre that I manage is a small one compared to the others, I would like to grow our distribution centre to one that the whole company relies on.
The Sales Department is like an activity club.
My clients are leading general contractors. I proposed the introduction of Mobile Spaces into construction sites, to be used as offices or workplaces. I negotiate directly with decision-makers and people in places of authority such as directors, and connect with field supervisors about the order. From the preparatory work and planning for the house, to the delivery of the project, I am present throughout the entire process.
A sales department that is somewhat similar to a baseball club.
I have been playing baseball for 15 years, from the first grade of elementary school to university. When I play baseball, my role is as a pitcher who is needed at crucial moments. Thanks to these experiences with sports, I am able to perform while under pressure.
I joined Sankyo Frontier because I felt that the atmosphere of the sales department is similar. Currently, the project I am dealing with is a mobile space used as a site office at a construction site. The general contractor in charge is a large company with hundreds of sites in the Kanto area.
Whether it is one site or many, our job requires us to travel frequently to introduce Mobile Space to businesses. We negotiate, make arrangements with the person-in-charge, exchange drawings with the design department and request shipment to the factory. In the event of a large project, we will also be present during the construction and hand over. The sales team has an important role in ensuring that processes do not get stuck at the bottleneck, and make sure things run smoothly.
Fiercely keeping my focus on the top player.
Although it hasn’t been long since I stood on the “mound” in the business field, there is something that I keep in mind while working – I aim to keep the correspondence as short as possible, and not to work over the telephone or e-mail only. Although the short construction period is Mobile Space's selling point, it is meaningless if the sales movement is slow. However, if we omit any steps, we would be overtaken by our competitors. While being conscious of giving a quick response, we would still personally hand over documents and quotations to customers for instance, as we value this connection with our customers. Truthfully, I was influenced by a capable senior in the same department, which led me to keep this mindset. This senior is a top player, who makes sales of tens of millions every month.
Although there is no set quota for our sales, I personally set a sales target for myself and I am constantly aware of the difference between me and my seniors. Now it's the time to steal the skill of this great player, and practice until my turn comes. In a few years, I envision myself growing to be in-line with the top.
From the General Affairs Group, we hope to make the company even more wonderful.
Primary correspondence of telephone calls from customers and with visitors, with a wide range of work that supports the employees. Recently, I have been in charge of proposing a special menu for the employee cafeteria. My aim is to create a comfortable working environment for everyone.
From the first correspondence, the company image changes.
"Yes, this is Sankyo Frontier". We receive many inquiries from within and outside the company, for example, about products, post-purchases and various requirements. There are customers who might be troubled by product faults or roof leaks, and are in a rush to get the products repaired.
Once, I received an urgent request from a customer. The sales representative in charge of the project was absent, and I had intended to leave a message for the other members of the sales team. At that time, I could only offer my apologies. My job does not end after leaving the message for the team - I make sure to solve the issue of the person who made the phone call.
Creating a company where employees work energetically.
In addition to supporting the work of employees such as answering phone calls and clerical work, we also deal with general affairs. Our work is to create a lively environment for employees to work. Creating such an environment is not limited to only the workplace. For instance, at Sankyo Frontier, there are many events that help to deepen the friendships between employees; the summer firework festivals with our families, the Guam Koko Road Races, the complimentary Frontier New Year Concert held for the people of Kashiwa City, Abiko City and Nagareyama City, and more. Through these events, I strongly feel the charm of Sankyo Frontier, which is very family-oriented.
Recently, as part of a new initiative, we created a new menu for company meals. Working together with the cafeteria staff, we came up with different food items. For Christmas, we had delicious meat dishes, and during periods where we needed to be energised, we prepared various kinds of curry. With tantalising and nutritious food, I am able to work hard in the afternoon!
