MS CAMPUS

A STUDY IN MOBILE URBAN DEVELOPMENT

In our goal to enable a circular economy in the built environment, MS CAMPUS is our ongoing project to push the frontiers of urban development and reimagine a city in motion.

TOWARD A CITY WHERE BUILDINGS CIRCULATE

Buildings are traditionally static, and urban development based on a “scrap-and-build” cycle harms the environment by generating large amounts of construction wastes. Imagine if the buildings that form a city could be assembled like blocks, gradually shifted, expanded or reduced. This is a city where the buildings circulate.

AN EVOLVING SPACE

MS CAMPUS is a living laboratory built with our Mobile Space units. This is where we immerse ourselves within our own architectural designs to better our craft.

In MS CAMPUS, there are spaces for work, community, and leisure—infrastructures that are part of every healthy city. By operating daily within MS CAMPUS, we can further develop our methods and designs through real-time observations and experiences.

We will continuously expand, reduce and relocate these spaces to leverage on our new building technology and adapt to shifting needs. Our goal is to realize a new form of urban development: one where the city adapts to the people.

INSIDE MS CAMPUS

MS HALL

MS Hall is a building with a vast, open interior space measuring 14 metres by 24.5 metres. It is built with MS1 as a foundational structure. A total of 46 structural units were assembled into a two-story high grid and topped with a custom large roof structure.

The space is equipped with an audio-visual system and professional stage lighting, making it highly versatile for community events. It serves as a training hub for meetings, training, and as a fully functional concert hall.

Model 93MS1H (10 units) + 75MS1H (24 units) + 20MS1H (12 units), 2-story

Dimensions L 34,054 × W 23,156 × H 8,365 mm

Total Floor Area 961.48 m²

MS CAFE

MS CAFE was inspired by the atmosphere of a university cafe where people gather to eat and learn. The space is a hybrid of an office, cafe, and library, a combination that is designed to spark curiosity and creativity.

Inside MS CAFE, there is a “Grand Staircase” that functions as a library area, with terraced spaces and a projection screen, that doubles as a community space for events and programs. This allows for more freedom and flexibility in ways of working. The integration of greenery creates an inviting and restorative space to enhance the sense of balance and well-being.

Model 93MS1H, 8 connected units, 2-story

Dimensions L 18,504 × W 28,229 × H 6,875 mm

Total Floor Area 499.82 m²

LIBRARY

At the heart of the foyer, full length bookshelves line the walls of the open library, encouraging one to pause, explore, and discover something new.

MS LAB

MS LAB is a three-story workspace that is built to foster creative momentum. We believe that great ideas can grow through connecting with others. The design of MS LAB supports this process of turning individual insights into a real-world collective innovation by providing thoughtful spaces that are conducive for different workflows.

There are quiet floors and nooks for deep thinking, and open hubs for the exchange of ideas. With the full glass panels and integrated greenery, the workspace is bright and inviting, ensuring a balanced and productive atmosphere.

Model 75MS1H, 2 units (short-side) + 13 units (long-side)

Dimensions L  15,132 × W 30,134 × H 9,700 mm

Total Floor Area 1,325

OFF-GRID EXPERIMENTAL BUILDING

This is an experimental facility designed to measure and test the workings of an off-grid facility that does not rely on public utilities. The design was awarded a Net Zero Energy Building (Z EB) Certification, having achieved a zero or negative annual energy balance.

Our research aims to rede fine the mobility of once fixed buildings through developing self-sufficient utility systems, material reuse, and the next generation of trailer houses. Through this, we hope to build a system that is kinder to the environment and planet.
